PARIS, July 25: Kuwait rowing team player Suad Al-Faqaan and national fencing team player Yousef Al-Shamlan had the honor of carrying the Kuwaiti flag at the opening ceremony of the 33rd edition of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games today, Friday. The Games will continue until August 11.In a departure from tradition, instead of athletes parading along an athletics track, guests and spectators enjoyed a colorful river parade in the heart of the French capital. The Seine River replaced the traditional path, with sidewalks transformed into platforms for spectators and famous Parisian landmarks providing a picturesque backdrop for the event.Athletes gathered on boats with their national teams and made their way to the Trocadero, the square opposite the Eiffel Tower. Here, official protocols were carried out, the Olympic flame was lit, and the Paris 2024 Games were declared officially open.Nearly 100 boats carrying an estimated 10,500 athletes floated along the Seine River during the show. Cameras mounted on rooftops allowed spectators to get close-up views of the athletes and witness their emotions.The athletes of the Kuwaiti national teams are completing their final preparations for the Olympic Games competitions, entering official training sessions specified by the organizing committee upon their arrival in Paris. Yousef Al-Shamlan will compete in the preliminary round of the fencing (saber) competition tomorrow, Saturday. Suad Al-Faqaan will compete in the preliminary rounds of the rowing competition. Other Kuwaiti athletes, including Lara Dashti (swimming), Khaled Al-Mudhaf (shooting - trap), Muhammad Al-Zubaid (100m freestyle), and Mohammed Al-Daihani (skeet), will compete in the following days. Amina Shah will participate in sailing, and the athletics competitions will conclude with Yaqoub Al-Youha in the 110m/h race and Amal Al-Roumi in the 800m race on August 4.Shooter Khaled Al-Mudhaf expressed optimism about his technical preparations and looks forward to competing in the individual trap competition on July 29 in Chateauroux. He aims to achieve strong results in the qualifiers to secure a place in the finals and achieve a new Olympic milestone for Kuwaiti sports.Sheikh Mubarak Al-Faisal, Vice President of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee, visited the Kuwaiti delegation at their headquarters in the Olympic Village upon his arrival in Paris. He met with delegation director Captain Ali Al-Marri and the technical and administrative staff of the national teams to assess their preparations and readiness for the competitions.
