If you plan to vote in person on Tuesday, Nov. 5, remember to leave your gun or other firearms at home or in your car.

Back in May, the Vermont legislature passed a law prohibiting the possession of firearms at polling stations. The new law also applies to "walks leading to a building in which a polling place is located" on election days and clerk's offices during early voting periods.

Vermonters who violate the firearm ban risk a sentence of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to $1,000, or both.
