The northern Plains looks to be in for some steamy days ahead with above-average temperatures expected in the 10-15 day forecast.

That heat is already offering some support to markets, according to Randy Martinson of Martinson Ag Risk Management. He discussed the marketing week with Randy Koenen of the Red River Farm Network on Friday, July 26, during the Agweek Market Wrap.

โ€œIt sounds like itโ€™s going to be warm,โ€ Martinson said.

The heat is going to put some pressure on corn and soybeans that have otherwise been given a dose of cooler temperatures and wet weather. But it could help finish out an otherwise stellar wheat crop across the upper Midwest. Martinson noted that the Wheat Quality Council tour that wrapped up on Thursday showed wheat is headed toward record yields across North Dakota, and parts of South Dakota and Minnesota. Those weather factors and strong yield estimates for wheat sent the wheat market down, while corn and soybeans saw a boost.
