BJP South Delhi MP-designate Ramvir Singh Bidhuri Monday announced he had requested party national president, J P Nadda, to relieve him of his current role as Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly to be able to take on his new role in the Lok Sabha.

With his resignation from the post scheduled on Tuesday — which will bring down the number of opposition BJP MLAs in the Aam Aadmi Party-majority House to seven in the 70-member Assembly — the process to choose his replacement has begun gathering pace, as per BJP sources.

“The party will abide by the national leadership’s choice for the post, which is likely to become clear by Tuesday morning, and will be based on various factors ranging from the performance of BJP candidates in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha, 2022 MCD and even the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections,” a senior Delhi BJP leader said.

In a letter to Nadda on the matter, Ramvir Bidhuri, who represents the Badarpur Assembly constituency, stated that as per the rules, he needs to resign from either the Assembly or the Lok Sabha within 14 days and will step down from the post of MLA on June 18.
