As tourists pile into Paris ahead of the Olympics, one woman among them is already 'regretting' her decision to go there as security is ramped up ahead of the Opening Ceremony on Friday local time. Footpaths, roads and bridges are blocked off to the public while police officers prominently patrol the streets with "machine guns".

The woman said she felt like a "rat in a cage" with the extensive barricades and fencing which have been erected for crowd control purposes, with the city expecting a million more people over the next few weeks of the Games.

"I'm staying in Paris for the Olympics and I regret my decision so much. Literally everything is blocked off, I can't even get across the street... you're not able to do anything, or go anywhere," the Irish woman said online.
