As reported by the Ministry of Energy, the BYD Atto 3 has now ceded its top position as the most popular model to Tesla. More than 500 cars of the Tesla Y model have been ordered, unimpressed by the new car price of well over 20 million forints. In the competition between the brands, Tesla holds 2nd place with a total of 800 orders, while BYD is clearly in the lead with well over 1,300 orders thanks to a broader model range (Atto, Seal, Dolphin, ETP3). Volvo follows in third place with a good 400 electric cars ordered.

The state has offered economic players a total of 30 billion forints in subsidies to convert their fleets to electric cars. The conditions for participation were relaxed at the end of October, which encouraged a further 500 companies to take part. However, on average only 1.2 vehicles are allocated to each applicant, so individual purchases clearly outweigh ‘fleets’. The Ministry of Energy continues to promote the programme and electromobility, the progressive spread of which has contributed to a 7% reduction in pollutant emissions in Hungary’s transport sector in 2023 compared to 2022.
