No. of Paragraph 30

IN SHORT: A graphic supposedly from digital news platform Kenyans.co.ke claims that president William Ruto’s approval rating has improved by 21% after he fired his cabinet. But it is fake.

“Ruto’s approval rating at 72%. President Ruto approval rating goes up by 21% after the dissolution of cabinet,” reads a graphic circulating on Facebook in Kenya.

The graphic features the logo of the digital news platform Kenyans.co.ke and a photo of Kenya’s president William Ruto standing at a podium. It is dated 13 July 2024.

In June, nationwide protests erupted against the Finance Bill 2024. The protests continued after Ruto withdrew the bill, with some Kenyans now calling for his resignation. Ruto then dissolved his cabinet, saying the decision was taken after listening to Kenyans and making a holistic assessment of his cabinet.
