Congress MPs on Monday were looking forward to wishing Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi personally on her 78th birthday, but to their disappointment the senior leader did not attend the House proceedings. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi made sure the MPs got to speak to Sonia via mobile phone. He called his mother after the meeting of party MPs and put the phone on speaker, letting the MPs wish her and sing the birthday song for the veteran leader.

With the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 being postponed to the next Parliament session, the government seems to be keen on resuming the debate on one nation, one election, a reform that is top priority of the Narendra Modi government. Sources said the Bill was likely to be tabled soon, but there was no certainty of it being taken up in the Winter Session. However, according to the sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen on an intense debate on the issue across the country, so it will be a part of the discourse initiated by the BJP and its talking heads in the coming days.

There is a pronounced difference between the Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist) when it comes to discussion on George Soros in Parliament. While the CPI(M) may want to discuss the matter raised by the Treasury Benches, the CPI clearly does not. A CPI leader said such a discussion would only benefit the ruling party. โ€œThey are making an issue out of nothing. Why should we support that?โ€ the CPI leader said.
